Addiction recovery nutritional supplements of professional quality are important part of a natural path to complete healing of alcohol abuse and other drug problems.
PHOTO ABOVE: MONTIFF Amino Acids / Vitamin-Mineral Packages give you SUPERIOR full-spectrum nutritional support for healing brain, nervous system and organs!
Vitamins, minerals and amino acids are REQUIRED to repair the damage to brain neuron pathways.
**Important: to know that the protocol MUST be suited to the kind of substance abuse.
Alcoholics require different nutraceuticals than cocaine users. Heroin addiction, meth use, marijuana abuse and opiate addiction all require a somewhat different protocol.
Be sure to consult with your doctor for the correct program for you.**
The right nutritional supplements go a long way to ease the journey for those in recovery.
Addiction Recovery supplements should include full-spectrum Amino Acids. Do you know that L-Tyrosine is a Dopamine precursor? And that Tryptophan is needed for Serotonin production?
Additionally, many amino acids are great DETOXIFIERS! This is important to assist your body in eliminating build up of harmful compounds due to drug or alcohol use.
Anyone who has severely over-used alcohol or drugs has pushed the limits of their body. Substance abuse not only increases stress, it depletes the body of vitamins, minerals, essential fatty acids, and many other nutrients.
Addiction recovery nutritional supplements support nervous system health and repair:
My number one choice for an Addiction Recovery Nutritional Supplements program is a full-spectrum Amino Acid formula accompanied by a full-spectrum Multi Vitamin-Mineral Complex.

Vitamin B-1 (Thiamin): Carbohydrate metabolism
Vitamin B-2 (Riboflavin): Protein and fat metabolism
Vitamin B-3 (niacin, niacinamide, or nicotinic acid): Circulation, joint health.
Vitamin B-5 (Pantothenic acid, pantethine): Adrenal gland health.
Vitamin B-6 (pyridoxine hydrochloride, p-5-p?): Protein metabolism, digestion, has a calming effect.
Vitamin B-12 (methylcobalamin is the best form to take B-12; another form it comes in is cyanocobalamin): Needed for healthy blood cells and properly formed nerve fibers. Helps reduce homocysteine levels.
Vitamin B-17: Immune system support.
Folate: Helps reduce homocysteine levels.
Inositol: a pleasant, sweet-tasting powder that some classify as a B-vitamin.
In my experience, inositol is a VERY effective nutritional supplement for calming anxiety, even in the most difficult circumstances!
Research shows that inositol increases serotonin and improves sleep quality. Not only that, but it tends to reduce cravings, as well! Six to twelve grams per day has facilitated increased cognitive function in patients with Alzheimer’s. Six grams per day was found helpful in relieving diabetic neuropathy.
Research found that patients suffering depression have lower levels of inositol in their brains than non-sufferers. To improve mood and noticeably reduce depression, six to twelve grams per day for a month was found effective. Inositol can be used safely along with antidepressants.
Inositol has a relaxing effect, helping to calm anxiety.
NOTE: For using inositol in large enough quantities to be effective, a powder is the most economical form to buy.
Choline benefits brain and nervous system health and helps metabolize fats. It is good to take choline at the same time as eating fats; it emulsifies and aids in digesting them. Choline has a lemony, acidic taste. 600 - 1000 mg per day has been shown in research to be effective.
Omega 3 essential fatty acids in the form of a fish oil supplement helps maintain brain, myelin sheath and nervous system health. It also increases the strength of cell membranes throughout the body. Omega 3’s are important for maintaining the eyes and healthy visual functioning.
CAUTION: **Moderation of fish oil intake is advised for former alcoholics: There is one situation in which high levels of vitamin A are not recommended and that is the condition of certain types of liver disease in which there is altered vitamin A metabolism. This is frequently the case with alcoholism.
Alcoholics should not take high doses (not more than 1-1.5 tablespoons of regular cod liver oil) and what they do take should be accompanied by zinc supplements.< The enzymes needed for vitamin A metabolism in the liver are zinc dependent.
Glutamine is an amino acid (protein building block) contained in many foods, but is destroyed by heat, so it is good to consider using a supplement. Glutamine easily passes through the blood-brain barrier, a protective barrier formed by the red blood cells and glia of brain. In brain, glutamine is converted to glutamic acid which helps sustain proper brain function. Increases gamma-amino butyric acid (GABA) - amino acid that functions as a neurotransmitter.
Other benefits of glutamine include:
Protecting the body from stress 2 - Balance blood sugar 3 - Promote weight loss 4 - Stops food cravings 5 - Heals and repairs the digestive tract 6 - Reduces food allergies 7 - Preserves lean muscle mass, prevents muscle wasting
Glutamine is also known to be useful for reducing cravings for drugs and alcohol.
A therapeutic measure of glutamine would be 3/4 to 1 1/2 teaspoons in a few ounces of water or juice on an empty stomach. Clients of mine who were chronically fatigued found such a protocol to give them a significant and beneficial boost in energy level.
**NOTE: With long-term (more than 2 months) use of glutamine in large (more than 1 1/2 teaspoons per day, it is advisable to take a full-spectrum amino acid supplement with the daily dose(s) of glutamine after 4 - 6 weeks of taking glutamine in isolation. The reason for this is that glutamine can, in large doses on an empty stomach, over stimulate the brain neurons.
While glutamine can be quite safe and beneficial in large amounts short-term (for a few months), it is not generally recommended to take large amounts of it long-term without taking other amino acids along with it at the same time.
Calcium and magnesium are essential for nerve transmission, and also support good sleep quality. More well known, of course, is the importance of these minerals for bone health. Calcium and magnesium need boron, and vitamins A and D in order to be absorbed. Vitamins A and D can be easily obtained by taking a small amount (one teaspoon) of cod liver oil per day OR getting at least 30 minutes of sun on 90% of your body each day. IMPORTANT: Don't take cod liver oil when you are getting sufficient sunshine or you run the risk of getting too much Vitamin D.
Alpha-Lipoic Acid is a fat soluble antioxidant and protects nerves from free radical damage. Generally, 100 - 300 mg per day is enough to be of benefit.
I would suggest you be very discriminating in your choices of addiction recovery nutritional supplements.
Restoring vibrant health after substance abuse requires products of highest professional grade (pharmaceutical) quality that will REALLY work for you!
Over 95% of all addiction recovery nutritional supplements are not as potent, pure or high grade as the companies claim. More than 30 years investigating the nutritional supplement industry, and insider information obtained both as a
health professional, as well as experimenting with hundreds of products to
recover from severe mercury poisoning, taught me to be very skeptical of the glowing claims of supplement companies.
