The safest, most effective therapies for optimal health!

Autophagy and the immune system: A growing body of research indicates that this catabolic process is instrumental in fighting pathogens:
"The autophagy pathway is an essential component of host defense against viral infection, orchestrating pathogen degradation (xenophagy), innate immune signaling, and certain aspects of adaptive immunity." (1)
"Autophagy is a homeostatic process that functions to balance cellular metabolism and promote cell survival during stressful conditions by delivering cytoplasmic components for lysosomal degradation and subsequent recycling. During viral infection, autophagy can act as a surveillance mechanism that delivers viral antigens to the endosomal/lysosomal compartments that are enriched in immune sensors." (2)
This process is also a powerful support for staying younger.
Autophagy and the immune system - the process of breaking down unhealthy tissues helps us to be more resistant to disease and aging.
As we grow older, the bodily processes for consuming, recycling and/or eliminating dead, dying and diseased cells becomes less efficient. All manner of detoxification helps this situation.
One example: Lead, mercury, aluminum and other toxic metals CAUSE there to be MORE dead, dying and diseased cells - overloading our bodies with, essentially, biological garbage. When we detoxify from heavy metals, relieved of that burden, the body's healthy cells thrive and don't become sick.
Less dying and diseased cells then lightens the body's burden of having to eliminate them. Less dying and dead cells means there is less material in the body to feed pathogens. Also, it means less inflammation, which is a big part of disease and aging. (For example, inflammatory activity in the blood vessels degrades the strength of the arteries and veins, irritating and corroding the inner walls which invites pathogens to eat the dead and dying tissue. It also makes it easier for platelets and other components of blood to get snagged on rough inner walls of the circulatory system - leading build-up of blockages.
Even with the indirect benefits of detox, taking into account autophagy and the immune system along with a consistent detoxification protocol can lead to impressive benefits!
When taking a proactive approach to autophagy and the immune system, we INITIATE the process. There are a host of ways to do that - and I will be describing those in my next article on this subject.
