Micronized Zeolite

Micronized zeolite: is this much-touted product for heavy metal detoxification safe and effective - or a dangerous scam?.

Some of the advertising copy reads as follows:

"Micronized zeolite has the perfect molecular structure for capturing and removing heavy metals from the body without removing healthy ions and minerals. Many people report feeling increased energy, clarity and vitality after removing heavy metal build-up."

The ads don't explain exactly what this compound really is - only implicating it is a finer grind and therefore better. It is said that 'micronized' means the zeolite is powdered fine but retains the 'cage' structure.

There is talk of 'cage-like' molecular structure and 'negative charge' that attracts 'positively charged' heavy metals and binds it, carrying it out of the body. The 'cage' description is meant to imply that toxic metals are 'trapped' securely while being escorted out of the body.

However, analysis of micronized zeolite shows it to be highly toxic! It contains over 20,000 ppm (parts per million) of aluminum! To give you an idea of ppm - just 2 ppm of chlorine in a swimming pool is very irritating to eyes and skin of those who swim in it - I know this from extensive personal experience.

Also contained in micronized zeolite are high amounts of lead and mercury. It is implied that these highly toxic metals are 'inert,' however stomach acid in people who consume them can easily mobilize them and release them into the bloodstream via the digestive and absorptive process.

There is no doubt that people are being poisoned by micronized zeolite. However, obviously no site promoting it will tell you that!

It did not take much research on my part to ascertain that no way would I ever knowingly consume micronized zeolite. After years of skeptical research on many products and experiencing what products did and did not work - I had zero interest in ever trying it. Listening to my inner wisdom served me well, as I am now well recovered from almost dying of severe mercury poisoning!

Dr. Boyd Haley, PhD Biochemist is a respected, credentialed researcher, activist and mercury detox expert. I close with a quote from him:

"The bad news is that it (zeolite) does not significantly remove mercury from an aqueous solution. This was tested by centrifuging down the zeloite and adding to it a 1 ppm mercury solution, re-suspending the zeloite and letting it set for several minutes, centrifuging it back down and re-testing the mercury content of the water. It did not decrease

"...this looks very much like many previous “miracle mercury cures” that just takes a lot of money from the unsuspecting parents who are looking for any help for their child—I have seen several of these—-and they all had studies showing how well they worked, but this data was never published in a decent journal.

"Zeolites contain high levels of aluminum, a heavy metal. Although the zeolite salespeople talk about how the aluminum in their product is 'caged,' hair tests done by parents found that Aluminum levels did spike.

"It is NEVER a good idea to introduce another heavy metal into a mercury toxic child as metals are synergistic or stronger together than they are alone. Each metal shuts down biochemical pathways that the body uses to function and Aluminum is know to potentiate, or make Mercury more potent

"Since zeolites are used to keep ammonia down in fish tanks, it's highly likely the reason for the improvement is that they are helping the gut. But there is not a single piece of evidence that zeolites help with the excretion of mercury and in fact, it defies the laws of science to say otherwise.

"Do not waste your child’s time or your resources with zeolites. In the 9 years I have been reading parents’ reports, I have never read of a recovery with zeolites. That’s if you don’t count salespeople, which I don’t." 2
