The best hot water bottle is NOT the kind you typically find in your local drugstore. For years I used that kind - you know - the stinky rubber ones that can make your bed smell like a tire warehouse!

Best Hot Water Bottle: My Story

For many years, I used the regular rubber hot water bottles for warm applications - ginger or castor oil compresses, soothing heat during a liver gallbladder flush and more recently as bed warmers in winter. I got the idea for warming the bed from many years ago hearing the stories of how the early settlers in America would warm bricks and place them under the covers.

The problem was that you could not put really HOT water into a regular drugstore hot water bottle; it would melt it instantly! Even using just very warm water, these inferior products would weaken and begin to leak, often within a few months of regular use.

In addition to the durability problem and the rubber smell, heat retention was poor. Ever bring a warm one to bed for a compress only to find it getting cold 40 minutes later? Disappointing!

When I found the BEST hot water bottles, I was delighted! The only way you can destroy them is to cut them with a knife or place them directly on a stove burner!

Many hundreds of time over the last few years, I have filled the ones I use with near-boiling water. No problem - still in excellent condition!
