The reason for this is that glutamine can, in large doses on an empty stomach, over stimulate the brain neurons.

While glutamine can be quite safe and beneficial in large amounts short-term (for a few months), it is not generally recommended to take large amounts of it long-term without taking other amino acids along with it at the same time.

Calcium and magnesium are essential for nerve transmission, and also support good sleep quality. More well known, of course, is the importance of these minerals for bone health. Calcium and magnesium need boron, and vitamins A and D in order to be absorbed. Vitamins A and D can be easily obtained by taking a small amount (one teaspoon) of cod liver oil per day OR getting at least 30 minutes of sun on 90% of your body each day. IMPORTANT: Don't take cod liver oil when you are getting sufficient sunshine or you run the risk of getting too much Vitamin D.

Alpha-Lipoic Acid is a fat soluble antioxidant and protects nerves from free radical damage. Generally, 100 - 300 mg per day is enough to be of benefit.
