How Do You Interpret Your Test Results?

Are Hair Analysis toxic metals your primary concern in choosing to get a test report from Trace Elements Laboratory?

Most of my clients who get tested tell me that they want to find out if their fatigue, brain fog, joint and muscle pain, digestive issues or heart palpitations, etc. may be mercury toxicity symptoms or a result of lead, cadmium or other poisonous elements.

If these are also your concerns, it is important that you have an understanding of how to interpret your test results.

Did you know that there is NO test that can show you total body burden of heavy metals?

That's right!

Not even a DMPS IV urine challenge test - which was disastrous for me!

Hair Analysis Toxic Metals: What Your Report Reveals and What Remains Hidden

First - your Hair Analysis Toxic Metals reading is EXTREMELY accurate in showing the amounts of mercury and other heavy metals circulating in your bloodstream over the last 3 months or so before your test.

HOWEVER...

Even if you have a known exposure to mercury, lead, etc., you may be surprised to find little to NONE of them showing up in your report!

Why..?

The Hair Analysis Toxic Metals section of the report cannot show you the TOTAL body burden of any toxic metal (for that matter, neither can ANY other test!

This is because your body sequesters most of the mercury and other toxic metals in out of the way places to keep it out of the bloodstream where it would do the most harm.

If you were to ONLY look at the readings of the amounts of heavy metals in your report, (and I can tell you that's the mistake I made years ago when I got my first test results back) - you would be missing much vital information.

Heavy metals, particularly mercury, can damage the body very fast!

Whatever can't be eliminated quickly is stored out of the main flow of circulation in bones and fatty tissue, for example.

The other reason no test can show our total body burden of toxic metals is because of the way the body integrates these elements into a variety of body tissues.

It can do this because some toxic elements are analogous to nutrient minerals. If the body is low on certain minerals, it will incorporate structurally similar heavy metals in their place.

For example, the structural make up of lead is very similar to calcium. If calcium is lacking in the bones for example, lead will be drawn to the bones in its place. A lack of selenium can facilitate more mercury absorption into certain tissues.

Because the toxic elements become part of certain body structures, they are not circulating in the blood and therefore won't show up in the hair. Hair analysis toxic metals readings measure only the amounts of poisonous elements that have been circulating in your blood stream over the last 3 months.

Even a person who has a high burden of mercury, lead or other heavy metals through known exposure, may find to their amazement that virtually NONE are showing up in their test results.

It can be tempting to believe that there is no toxicity - yet the person is perplexed because they still feel sick!

Besides the fact that the person feels ill, the clue that gives the lie to what is visible on the test is that the nutrient minerals (calcium, magnesium, potassium etc.) exhibit often serious imbalances.

Dr. Klinghardt says, (and I am paraphrasing here), 'First, you see the nutrient minerals all out of balance and no toxins coming out. As you re-balance the nutrient minerals, the toxic metals start to show up in the hair. They increase; that is a GOOD sign - the body is becoming strong enough to eliminate them.
