Detox Diet Emotional Issues: A Golden Opportunity!

It is not unusual for detox diet to trigger emotional issues. This challenge can naturally arise in the course of changing eating habits.

While emotional issues can affect our ability to follow a detox diet, they can also stimulate healthy personal growth. You may even find golden opportunities to heal on a deep core level.

Allowing yourself to take time to feel what comes up not only helps you develop personally, it smooths your detox journey. As you become aware of connections between cravings and feelings, detoxification and weight loss gets easier!

It has been said, 'It is easier to get someone to change their religion than to change their diet.'

Food choice is (rightfully so) an emotional issue. Food gives us life. How much more intimate can you get?

Food choices tend to become associated with the situations in which we eat them. Often we are unaware of this dynamic, and are attached to certain foods not knowing why.

For example, a craving for Halloween 'candy corn' may have an emotional tie to the wonder of childhood autumn joy. Or it may trigger a feeling of melancholy and longing for happier times. It doesn't matter if the candy is physically good for us or not.

You may want to notice if the words 'diet' or 'cleanse' bring up immediate resistance. This can happen if we fear being deprived of a food we rely on to give us comfort or pleasure. We naturally resist if we think we are going to have something we desire taken away.

Do what attracts you!

Desire, happy anticipation, and consistent, constructive, satisfying action - not 'shoulds and shouldn'ts' - are the order of the day.

One Physical Basis of Detox Diet Emotional Issues

When you look at the digestive system as a tube that runs through the deepest core of the body, you have just a hint of why emotional issues can arise around diet.

Taking it further, the feedback loop between the organs of digestion and the spinal cord is a direct one that doesn't even directly include the brain! This is why 'gut feelings' are immediate and intense.

Detox Diet: Out With the Old, In With the New!

As we detoxify our bodies, a good deal of what we cleanse out of our systems is old toxic matter that has been there, sometimes for years. Residues from prescription drugs (or illegal ones), heavy metals like lead and aluminum, mold toxins and environmental pollution can persist in our bodies for years, decades, even our whole lives!
