What is the best detox diet for YOU?
You can create a nutritional program to help you have strong, silky skin, thick lustrous hair and a supple resilient body. But whose ideas do you believe?
Profound, yet seemingly simple truths are not commonly acknowledged by many diet 'gurus.'
Right now, I am going to tell you things that most die-hard proponents of various detox diets either don't recognize or won't talk about.
Why don't they tell you these things?
Because they rigidly adhere to a limited belief system and don't want to acknowledge anything that might make them wrong.
Real facts would invalidate the myths upon which most dietary beliefs are based. Hence the silence on the part of the believers...
Consistency in following body cleanse plans is good. However, rigidity is not healthy. Here are the reasons to allow for some flexibility:
Detox Diet, Biochemistry and Body Wisdom
First and most important:
Your body is ALWAYS changing. What is sometimes called your 'biological terrain,' everything from blood chemistry and glandular secretions to bone density, digestive capacity, protein absorption or protein depletion is continually shifting in a never-ending dance.
Some things, like bone density, shift at a slower rate. Blood chemistry can change in an instant - such as a sudden outpouring of adrenal hormone in an emergency. Other examples of quick changes in body chemistry: a measurable, pleasurable increase in endorphins and oxytocin when someone lovingly hugs you, or during a harmonious sexual experience.
With regard to food and drink, blood sugar levels can quickly spike and drop precipitously when high-glycemic carbohydrates are consumed. Healthy protein and fats can stabilize blood sugar on both an immediate and long-term basis. Such biochemical events can have far-reaching impact on the health of the rest of your body, and how you feel physically and how you handle stress.
What does the ever-changing state of your body mean for your detox diet plan?
Your second body detox diet tip grows out of the first:
Your nutritional needs are ALWAYS changing.
Short-term example: What was appropriate food for breakfast may not be right at lunch or dinner. Fruit and yogurt may be perfect in the morning, but by noon you might want salad and chicken.
Long-term example: You have been on a vegan raw food regimen for three years. Gradually you find yourself feeling fatigued and spaced-out. (This happened to me).
Do you determinedly try harder to cling to your belief system about what is THE 'perfect diet?' Or do you stop and listen?
Can you be flexible when your body wisdom asks for a change in direction?
If your energy level, digestive efficiency, sexual health and other body functions gradually worsen, something is WRONG!
This brings us to a third fact:
When your body cleanse program is just right, you will experience improved physical, emotional and mental functioning.
NOTE: While the general trend will be improvement, occasionally you may feel worse. If you are really detoxifying in a safe and effective way, even when you feel worse, your energy level will be good. You will also get over any symptoms quickly.
If you find yourself in a downward spiral, that is not cleansing - it is WRONG, and something needs to be changed. **Be sure to always consult with your doctor and follow their advice.**
There likely will be times you struggle with cravings, mood changes and other symptoms, but in general, the right body cleanse protocol will lead to continued improvements in all aspects of health.
Your detox diet program should give you continuing improvements in digestion, cardiovascular health, energy, attractiveness, happiness, libido and sexual pleasure, among other things.
Detox Diet Foods: Myth and Reality
Do you have long, fuzzy, upright ears? NO! That means you are not a rabbit or a donkey! Horns? Nope. Well, that rules out cows, sheep, goats, deer and other ungulates.
That means you don't have to eat buckets of fibrous plants to detox your body. Fiber is good, but it CAN be overdone. Too much fiber interferes with absorption of nutrients. Minerals, healthy fats, protein and other needed nutrition can get bound up in the mass of fiber and carried through the digestive tract without being absorbed.
You don't necessarily have to grow your own sprouts, do organic gardening, or even buy a juicer (though for some people that is perfect)!
You may be surprised to know that some foods never considered for detox are some of the best cleansing foods for certain people!
AN EXAMPLE: Did you know that pasture-fed beef is a great diet detox food for some people? Here's why:
If you have an accumulation of toxic metals (aluminum, mercury, lead, arsenic, etc.) in your body, amino acids (protein building blocks) are heavy metal 'chelators' that will carry toxic metals right out of your body! The most easy to absorb and complete spectrum of amino acids is found in red meat, poultry, eggs and other such foods.
Let go of limited notions about detox diet foods. Your journey to health and happiness will be much easier, and a lot more pleasureable!
